Sometimes a gym might not be available and you’re left to work with what you got, maybe you just want to stimulate your muscles a different away, or for whatever reason, you should implement calisthenics to your workout program in order to reach your fitness goals. Today, I will talk about what Calisthenics is, its benefits, and why you should start implementing it to your workout program.
Calisthenics
An effective workout isn’t determined on the equipment you use, it is determined by the effort you put into it. With this in mind, you should know that you can still have an effective workout and make significant progress even when just doing bodyweight exercises.
When it comes to calisthenics, its exercises are mainly strength-based, but don’t get me wrong, you can still get an amazing physique from solely doing calisthenics.
Just look at the physique of a gymnast, their physique is mostly from performing body weight exercises!

What is it?
Calisthenics is by far one of my favorite ways to exercises, but what exactly is calisthenics?
Calisthenics is a form of exercise consisting of compound movements (E.g, running, pushing, pulling, jumping, etc) which tend to work multiple muscle groups at once using one’s own bodyweight for resistance.
These exercises are often performed with minimal equipment and are intended to increase strength, athleticism, and flexibility, through movements such as pulling, pushing, bending, jumping, or swinging, using one’s bodyweight for resistance.
Calisthenics can provide the benefits of muscular and aerobic conditioning, in addition to improving psychomotor skills such as: balance, agility, and mind-body coordination.
Common exercises
Some common exercises performed in calisthenics include:
Benefits
- Calisthenics is excellent for helping build muscular strength & size, improve muscular endurance, improve overall athleticism & coordination, aerobic conditioning, and a lot more!
- Calisthenics can be done anywhere as its focused on bodyweight exercises, making it a very easy and efficient way to improve your overall athletic performance and be implemented into your workout routine with little to no effort. Calisthenics utilizes one’s own bodyweight as the stimulant, meaning your gym is your own body, not the one you need to drive to.
- Another great benefit with calisthenics is that it is much safer than traditional weightlifting. All of the exercises associated in calisthenics stems from natural movements, so it is very unlikely to tear a muscle as it would be in weightlifting.

Conclusion
Calisthenics is a form of exercise which consists of compound movements using one’s own bodyweight for resistance.
With many benefits such as building muscular strength and improving muscular endurance along with very low risk of injury, Calisthenics makes an excellent form of exercise that can be easily done anywhere and included in your regular workout routine.
